Summer 2007 - workshops with Jonathan Monks
Testimonials
Space workshop - Sunday 8 th July
"I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed your approach, and was glad to be able
to get a glance at your work and feel things I hadn't really felt before (First time I felt
space in a cobra for exemple!!!). I also wanted to tell you that this notion of space made it
very easy for me to be in touch with my practice on a deep level, which is quite difficult for
me at this time where my body has lost all its strength and most of its internal connections...
I am connected outwards towards my baby but not much else!
With Gratitude," - Camille
Inversions workshop - April 07
"Thank you very much for organising (the Inversions) workshop, which I greatly enjoyed." - Amelia
"He has shown new thinking within yoga." - Rumit
Where is the experience of Space?
Where is the origin of Movement?
Where is the essence of Teaching?
Where is the expression of Self?
In these four workshops Jonathan Monks invites you to experience for yourself the reality of these questions within yourself.
The intention of these workshops is to provide a solid basis for teaching, or for the individual looking to deepen their practise. The original and specifically designed workshops introduce you to your bodies untapped potential. All that is requirred is to move, find the origin of that movement and follow it as you travel through posture after posture. Your focus always being in the present, not where you think it should be but precisely where you are in space. You become aware and sensitive to your own limits and variations but take this information as a medium to explore deeper. By using your tensions, injuries, variations, you discover the cause, the means to release this and ulitimatley know yourself more truly and honestly. This is the premise of all of Jons teaching. Only when you have truly accepted yourself and began on the journey of self discovery honestly, can you begin to guide others. This premise goes beyond Yoga and can benefit every aspect of life. The workshops are a analysis into the biomechanics of the body and are not limited to a codified style or one particular form. Jons movement 'style' is the subtle art of matching the essence of the mind to that of the techniques in which it has to work. For this reason, he is constantly studying and examining the essence of movement within Ashtanga, Iyengar, Shivananda, Shadow, Method Pukisto, Tai Chi, Capoeira, dance, Inversions, and Butoh. In every form there is a truth. Jon takes every movement as being so of itself but without the artificiality with which we tend to complicate them. The closer to the truth one gets, the less complicated and pure is the expression.
For this reason Yogis as well as other movement practioners are welcome. Each workshop has a particular focus as listed but works within the universal concepts mentioned above.
Jons students are primarily teachers that enjoy this opportunity to truly go beyond what they may already know and deeply look inside to discover their own personal truths. Jon also teaches at The Place, EC1 in london to a mixed level, Tri Yoga(Soho) and from his lovely home studio in East London. for details please visit www.yogamonks.co.uk
